How much....

We put a bit of effort into our videos of The Greedies live performances (thanks to having a pro photographer 'on tap'), and have got the last batch pretty good I think. The intention is, of course, to use them to promote the band and to get more gigs :-).I've thought about doing it as a part-time small business, for bands roughly on our level, who want something better than "my mate with his iPhone/handycam" but can't (yet) afford a proper video production house job. We do a decent job, I…See More

"The Old Ford in Ash Vale. We had a great gig there. Biker club come in a lot, they are mainly older (40s-50s) but also a 20s 30s crowd. Right at the station (North Camp) so you may get random people popping in.   The Rowbarge, Guildford (very…"

The singing is going very well, and The Greedies are adding new numbers at a rapid pace - always good to have a choice! I'm doing some more high stuff too - so bring yer earplugs to the next gig >:-)

I am also working into doing some Rhythm Guitar duties - debuted on "Substitute" at the last gig, now working on "Addicted To Love" - which is killing my arm and hand right now with the sliding power chords but no doubt I will adapt. I still think I have to exert far too much pressure…

Vocalists have toys too...

Posted on November 4, 2010 at 15:20 5 Comments

I think that people often think of vocalists as the footloose and fancy free sort - at least in terms of kit! And true, I know some who own/carry no more than a microphone. Me, I have stuff. LOTS of it. More than anyone including the drummer...

The full chain for my vocal kit is: Shure SM58 - > Focusrite ISA One preamp - > [FMR Really Nice Compressor - > Electroharmonix Voice Box (only used for the reverb)] - > return to preamp - > Alesis Multimix 8 mixer - >…

Great to talk to all you guys last night - we must do it again sometime! Met a few people I'd somehow not run into before and found that *everybody* but *everybody* has been through the Weekend Warriors / Get Rocking scheme. It seems it's a big part of local folks getting (back) into live music performing.

So when are we having the next one? When we do, we should advertise it (with perhaps a little more blurb on what it's about) at all the local studios and in good old Anderton's… Continue

Off to Denmark

Posted on September 29, 2010 at 15:01 0 Comments

I am off to Denmark tomorrow for the 1st of 6 3-day singing courses at the Complete Vocal Institute. http://www.completevocalinstitute.com/

I thoroughly recommend their book 'Complete Vocal Technique' by Catherine Sadolin http://www.completevocalinstitute.com/?q=en/Shop - it's a superset of everything else I have read or been taught (though I have had only a very few… Continue
