outdoor miners started out as a passing comment between Norm and Stevie on the forum called TalkPunk some five years ago. Norm made the comment that he would love to do what the Ex Lion Tamers did and get onstage and do a set of songs by Wire. Being another long time Wire fan, Stevie said that, if ever the project got off the ground, he was in to take up the role of Graham Lewis. Some five years later and Norm's 50th Birthday was approaching fast! It seemed the perfect time to get the project off the ground as he needed a band to play at his Birthday party. He approached Wires agent who quoted him £10k for the real band to play! That fuelled Norms ambitions even more and 'outdoor miners' were born in February 2011. Norms Birthday gig rolled around and 50+ people assembled in Bush Hall, Shepherds Bush to see the gig. Much like their heroes [Wire], the audience did not know what to make of the band? Was it going to be a [Dot Dash] car crash or a triumph? Two songs into the set and the band was in full stride with 'Brazil' and the audience drew closer. This rest is history! What started out as a one night only celebration of Norms love of Wire has now turned into a proper gigging band!
